yehudah-levin[Video below.] Yehudah Levin says he’s withdrawing his endorsement of New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino because the Republican apologized for comments he made about those who live

 a toeivah lifestyle.

Levin accused Paladino today of bowing to political pressure when he apologized for a speech he gave in the Karlsburg Bais Medrash in Boro Park in which he said children shouldn’t be “brainwashed” into thinking the toeivah lifestyle is acceptable.

Levin – speaking in New York City in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral – says he can’t support Paladino’s campaign “until such time as he straightens out.”

Paladino spokesman Michael Caputo said in an e-mail that Levin and Paladino “agree on many things and disagree on some, too. He’s entitled to his opinion.”

  1. Levin, for decades a walking, talking mechalel sheim shamayim and mevazeh Toah is at it again.

Stop covering his “stories” and maybe he’ll just stop.

  2. Bottom line is that he spoke the truth. If some Rabbi is upset – fix the problem, not the messenger. The time for sweeping things under the carpet – end it! Enough! The only irony is that we are all different. I, for one don’t love money that much.

  3. Rabbi Yehuda Levin is the spokesman for the Rabbinical Alliance of America claiming to represent American Jewry, politically and religiously.

What EXACTLY is the Rabbinical Alliance of America? ANyone know what it does or who it is?

    What a gelechter.

  4. This whole episode is an embarrassment to the Frum community. As Rabbi Zweibel said ““It is ironic that a candidate seeking to portray himself as ‘the religious values candidate’ — no comment on that — would come into the heart of the Orthodox Jewish community with no direct knowledge of the facts, and recite someone else’s prepared text portraying distinguished Gedolei Yisrael [venerated Jewish leaders] as gullible, ignorant pawns manipulated by ‘power brokers and power seekers.’ Perhaps the one being manipulated here is none other than the candidate himself,”

R’ Levin should be ashamed of himself.

Yehuda Levin, 52, is a native New Yorker who is perhaps the best known Orthodox Rabbi in the Western world. He has been a special representative of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada and is a prominent figure in the Rabbinical Alliance of America, which has a membership of 1,200 rabbis and represents the views of more than 2 million Orthodox and traditional Jews all across the globe. He is often on television and radio, is a prolific writer, contributes regularly to his own website (see http://www.jewsformorality.com), and for a quarter of a century has been addressing the annual March For Life in Washington. (The event this year had an estimated 134,000 participants and was largely ignored by the major media.) Levin is known for his courage, optimism, and unflagging commitment to traditional Judeo-Christian moral values. Like his friend Bill Donohue of the Catholic League, Rabbi Levin is someone a great many people on the Left detest.

Levin has been especially active in the pro-life movement, working frequently with Roman Catholics. In the 1980s he defended John Cardinal O’Connor when the cleric was criticized for drawing a parallel between abortion and the Holocaust. He met with Pope John Paul II and defended the Vatican in 2000 against a campaign by secularists to cripple the Holy See’s observer status at the United Nations. Levin greatly admires Pope Benedict XVI, noting his traditional teaching on the most controversial issues. The Rabbi desires to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s largest Christian church to take back “the naked public square from corrupt politicians.” As he told the National Catholic Register, he and Catholic leaders “talk about what is our common business: to preserve God’s family values …..These are the things we need to unite around and take to the streets on—to bring out the faithful.”

Most Jews in the United States are more or less secular. But Levin wants it known that Conservative Judaism is of the same stripe.

Few Levin activities have enraged the Left more than his drive to stop a parade in Jerusalem last year. Michelle Norris of National Public Radio was aghast at such “intolerance,” and a wide range gays and lesbians expressed their anger on the Internet. (E.g, http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-1816html. One is referred to this website by an article on Levin in Wikipedia, an often left-leaning source of information.)

Still, Levin is not dissatisfied with the recent elections that gave Democrats control of Congress. The GOP had the White House and Congress for six years, he states, and delivered only “lip service” when it came to family and life issues. Republicans, he believes, needed to be learn that their inaction had consequences.

But now it is time, Levin says, to regain the political momentum and build authentic conservative and moral strength in Washington. He promises an all-out effort to win the battle. “Jews, Christians and all good people of faith are under attack, and yet many don’t even recognize it, and if they do, they make needless concessions in order to get along. I don’t believe in cowering before the secular establishment, but standing up for my moral beliefs and asking people who share them to join me.”

  6. Why would the media even cover this guy darshening about “lowlife politicians” and “panederers”. He thinks he’s an eppes.

  7. Levin is still busy with a letter that Rav Avigdor Miller wrote in 1983 t Rav Elya Svei. Thet’s what he bases everything he does on. Not one gadol is publically behind him. He is a one man show. And represents himself.

  8. What does this guy do for a living? He talks about how he was in the middle of eating a pastrami sandwich with Palkadino from Gottliebs and makes a joke. He is so not funny.

  9. Loshon Horah that you speak travels but nothing can compare to something that you write down for all to see. Just a reminder that Rabbi Levin is a Jew – so agree with him or not, think before you speak. It is funny that the arbiters of whether someone else’s actions were righteous or not seem to be people that don’t know the most basic laws of loshon horah!

  10. Why Think Negative?

    Why Talk Negative?

    Why Be Negative?

If you have nothing good to say about another Yid, don’t say it!!!!!!

Rabbi Levin’s words and speeches are 100% true and helpful, one cannot refute the things he brought out, period!!!!

Gedolei Yisroel have been pleading with leaders of the nations for thousands of years. Our Gedolim even went as far as to give/send them presents in order to find favor and secure favors for klal yisroel.

We need a Yid However to stand up and scream that don’t forget that these people are Rotzchim, Gazlonim, M’Nuvolim… and admire & even advocate anti torah values.

    Thank You for reading.

I hope I influence even one person to stop talking negative about another Yid, that would be a great z’chus for me!

  11. It’s a lot worse to bring the Menuval Coumo INTO a bais Medrash, than to stand in front of a church! Rabbi Levin is speaking the truth & I know that hurts for a lot of you losers.
Go ahead, vote for King Coumo, the unopposed Liberal Democrat. Vote for higher taxes. Vote for continued disfunction in Albany. Vote for abortion. Vote for toeivah “Marriage”. Vote for making it Law to force our Yeshivas to hire toeivah teachers. Vote for the Hate crimes bill.
A vote for Coumo is a vote for the walking talking Chillul Hashem.

  12. He goes ahead and leads Paladino to make those statements which lost him support and then takes back hie endorcment? If you disagree, fine, but dont take it back now

  13. I envy Rabbi Levin’s Olan Haboah.

He is doing true Avodas Hakodesh.

Making clear to the world, Jews are unabashedly against toeiva.

  14. Most of the reporters left several minutes into the “press conference” of Rabbi Levin yesterday. Thats why you see the camera shots from different angels.

Levin cannot even belive all the media attention he is getting in the last three days. Its all he really wants, attention. The toeivah issue is just a convienent hot topic , with which he trys to get some fame.

When will the community and any person running office realize that “Levin’s “endorsement” is worth exactly 6 votes. ( the precise number of senior citizens in his shul )

  15. Rabbi Levin is a poor public representative of the Orthodox community. His crusade may be giving the Orthodox community more of a Black eye than a Kiddush Hashem. His playing in petty politics is diminishing the Kavod HaRabonut, especialy from the outsde community.

  16. Rabbi Levin is not perfect, but you have to give him credit for saying what others are afraid to say and standing up for Torah values.

    ???? ??? ?’ ????? ????”?

  17. #13 asked “What EXACTLY is the Rabbinical Alliance of America?”

It was originally an organization of American Rabbis that was started by Yeshiva Torah Vodaath and other non-YU/RIETS Orthodox Rabbis around the 1940’s.

It used to be large, now it is a shadow of it’s former self. Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum, who writes in the Jewish Press, is the director.
limayseh it is small and weak, if you have been to one of their meetings you will see that.
