Yerushalayim Mayor Nir Barkat met with President Donald Trump’s special representative for international negotiations, Jason Greenblatt, on Friday at the White House.

The meeting came after Greenblatt’s discussions throughout March with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. He met separately with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas amid the Trump administration’s effort to jumpstart the peace process.

A Facebook post shared by the mayor’s office said that Barkat and Greenblatt “discussed affairs pertaining to Jerusalem. Greenblatt is a real lover of Jerusalem and the strengthening of Jerusalem is very important to him.”

Last week, Greenblatt reportedly laid out terms requesting that Israel freeze all construction in isolated settlements and place limits on new construction inside large settlement blocs. Although it was reported that Netanyahu was surprised by these terms and rejected them, a senior Israeli official later denied that the Trump administration had requested the settlement freeze.
