The Yerushalayim municipality is to reactivate its 2015 policy of fining minimarkets that operate on Shabbos in the city center.

Minimarkets in remoter areas of town where less religious Jews live were not included in the 2015 decision.

Having stopped fining city center shops for two months after mayoral candidate Yosi Havilio told a court that there less than ten shuls in the inner city, the city now resumed giving fines after finding over 100 shuls and batei medrash in the area.

  1. And if there are no shuls? Why should any store be open Shabbos? Isn’t it against the law? And then they wonder why there’s so much Arab terrorism.
