yeshiva-tiferes-yisroelIn the fall of 1989, three young men, talmidim of Rav Henoch Leibowitz zt:l, embarked on a new project, founding Yeshiva Tiferes Yisroel. Rabbi Dovid Harris, Rabbi Yehuda Jacobson, and Rabbi Zvi Turk saw an opportunity to bring the lessons of their great rebbe, a synthesis of Torah and mussar, to the robust Flatbush community.

The goal of the fledgling yeshiva was to inculcate in the talmidim a love for Torah embedded in middos tovos and also supply more “manpower” to the world of chinuch across America and beyond. Fortuitously, Rabbi Turk reached out to his cousin, Mr. Irving Langer, a young real-estate manager and developer, to gain some insight into the Brooklyn market. Mr. and Mrs. Langer were no strangers to building ventures such as this. Embracing their role as leaders and supporters of the Five Towns community since moving there, the Langers were instrumental in building Rabbi Kalish’s shul and the TAG high-school building and were pivotal in Darchei and numerous other community initiatives and institutions. Mr. Langer saw this as a “buying opportunity” and jumped in to be that person to make this dream a reality.

The yeshiva began with a preschool and a ninth grade, and with great siyata diShmaya grew exponentially. Its 90,000-square-foot building is now home to close to 800 talmidim in the three divisions-elementary, high school, and beis medrash. The yeshiva is now celebrating its 25th year of success in being mechanech thousands of talmidim in Torah and yiras Shamayim.

The yeshiva will be culminating this celebration with a dinner honoring Mr. and Mrs. Irving Langer, Mr. and Mrs. Ari Hertz, and Mr. and Mrs. Benjy Lapin, who have been the staunch, reliable, and most generous supporters through every twist and turn over the quarter century. The dinner will be held at The Palace in Brooklyn on April 30.

  1. With hatzlacha rabbah.
Would love to see Ahavas Eretz Yisroel added to the core curriculum as many of the former Rebbeim of Chofetz Chaim so loved (eg. Rabbi Moshe Chait zt”l)
