gemara[Audio below.] Rabbi Mordechai Koster is presently a member of the kollel at Bais Medresh Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, where he received semichah. He has written several seforim on halacha and on the moadim called Gevuras Akiva. In addition, he releases a gilyon on the parsha in halacha and aggada every week.

Rabbi Kostner previously learned at Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, Yeshiva Shaar HaTorah and Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.

  1. The area of real stringency (Chatas term is used by the author of the Mishna, Kares term is preferred by others) is only 187 by 135 Amos (each amah is 18-24 inches), a very small part of the area known as “Har Habayis”.

  2. 50 years ago no doresh-g’ulah thought about going there. The prevailing da’ah was that the location of the actual kharam was not completely clear. This I heard from several g’dolim, even RZ’s. No one questioned it. (of course we didn’t have the y’donos of the Women of the Wall then.) We were shown agados that at least implied that the aron is not exactly where self-proclaimed mumkhim were cock-sure that it is. At least no one’s trying to minimize the splotches on a parah-adumah (yet).
