koch-turnerThe following is a statement from the National Council of Young Israel on the passing of former New York City Mayor Ed Koch:

“The National Council of Young Israel expresses its condolences on the passing of Mayor Edward Koch. During his three terms as Mayor of the City of New York and throughout his many decades in the public eye, Mayor Koch consistently demonstrated an innate commitment to the Jewish community and a willingness to tackle the issues that were important to them. Mayor Koch was a staunch defender of the Jewish people who worked tirelessly to restore a sense of pride to New York City and its large and vibrant Jewish community. He took a keen interest in the well-being of the State of Israel and often went to great lengths to bring important issues pertaining to the Jewish State to the forefront. Mayor Koch was a champion of New York who helped revitalize the city and solidify its place as a cultural and financial hub. His warmth, gregarious nature, and unwavering dedication to New Yorkers will be sorely missed.

“May G-d comfort his family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”

  1. “Mayor Koch consistently demonstrated an innate commitment to the Jewish community and a willingness to tackle the issues that were important to them.”

Oh really?! Like what? Toeivah marriage? Abortion on demand? Eating treiff on Yom Kippur? Need I continue? The fact that he was a “cardiac Jew”, means NOTHING!

  2. Its hard to believe that he is being buried in a church cemetery in Manhattan.
His tombstone will bear the Star of David and a Hebrew prayer, “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.” It also will be inscribed with the last words of journalist Daniel Pearl before he was murdered by terrorists in 2002: “My father is Jewish. My mother is Jewish. I am Jewish

  3. Who are we to judge him? Why speak poorly on the dead. He was the best mayor the city has had. At least he wants to be remembered as a jew.
