A geomagnetic storm that might mess with electrical grids and interrupt radio signals is hitting Earth near the North Pole. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration first observed the “severe” geomagnetic storm at 9:58 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

According to NOAA, an event of this severity occurs about 100 times during every 11-year cycle.

“Storm conditions are forecast to persist for the next several hours before beginning to wane down toward the end of the [Universal Time] day,” the NOAA said on its Storm Weather Prediction Center. Read more at Mashable.
