A lawsuit filed by families of 10 victims of the Meron disaster last Lag Ba’omer details over 200 government failings that it claims led to their relatives’ death during the annual celebration.
The families are suing the state of Israel for tens of millions of shekels.
The disaster occurred when masses of Yidden leaving the annual hilula were trying to squeeze through a narrow passageway. The ensuing crush killed 45 people and left another 150 injured.
According to Yisrael Hayom, the plaintiffs are demanding 4 million shekels in compensation for each family. The victims included six Americans, two Canadians, an Argentine, and a Briton, and ranged in age from 13 to 65.
The lawsuit names the Israel Police, the Public Security, Interior, Religions Services, Economy, and Tourism ministries, the National Administration for Holy Places, the Israel Fire and Rescue Services, Magen David Adom, and the Merom HaGalil Regional Council, as well as the Ashkenazi and Sephardi religious administrations on Har Meron, and the two engineering companies who approved the bleachers and ramp on the premises.
The suit was filed two days ahead of the first anniversary of the tragedy.

A deliberately misleading headline. They’re equally suing all those religious organizations who , despite Israel government warnings about safety , urged the public to storm to Meron regardless. They’re the ones responsible. They’re the ones who should sit in jail.
FACT: Why did the tragedy only happen last year? Hundreds of thousands went to Meron for years and it only happened last year when the government decided to take control and refused to open the exist, thus murdering 45 holy Jews.
