Yaakov M, a 17 year old living in Bnei Brak, has had a more challenging life than most boys his age. He is confined to a wheelchair, unable to move half of his body. His mother Louisa remains home with each day, to help him perform basic tasks.

His family situation was complicated long before a car accident catapulted him into disability last year. A few years prior, the M family lost Yaakov’s older brother to cancer. Since then his mom has struggled, as a single mom, to support her family single-handedly.

Now that Yaakov is disabled, his mom has left her place of employment. What Yaakov is unaware of, is how dire his family’s current situation is: At any moment, they could become homeless. Homelessness for a paralyzed 17 year old and his 7 year old brother would be, to put it simply, disastrous. Louisa has started an emergency fund in hopes of getting some help. The rabbinical board of Kupat Ha’Ir have publicly supported the campaign.
