The Yerushalayim District Court has handed down a sentence of 18 years in prison to the individual responsible for the fatal stabbing of Border Police officer Sgt. Asil Sawaed during a terrorist attack in Shuafat two years ago.
Sawaed, who served as a full-time member of the Border Police, was attacked by a 13-year-old terrorist, who stabbed him in the head while he was on a bus in Jerusalem. A nearby security guard was able to injure the attacker and eventually neutralize him.
Furthermore, the judge ruled that the terrorist, now aged 15, would receive a suspended sentence of 3 years and would be required to pay compensation amounting to 250,000 shekels.
This ruling follows a request from the prosecution for a 20-year prison sentence for the terrorist.
MK Limor Son Har Melech, addressing Sawaed’s family after the sentencing, emphasized, “We need to make sure that he (the terrorist) is not released in a deal.”
