genFor the first time since the Vietnam War, a Marine Corps commandant requested the retirement of two generals for failing to adequately guard a base in Afghanistan.

In 2012, two Marines were killed and a dozen aircraft destroyed when 15 Taliban fighters stormed Camp Bastion. Gen. James Amos says asking for the retirement of Maj. Gens. Charles Gurganus and Gregg Sturdevant was “hardest decision I have had to make as commandant of the Marine Corps.” But, he said: “In their duty to protect their forces these two generals did not meet that standard.” Read more at USA Today.

  1. So the Taliban even got 2 good soldiers out of the war. What a stupid government we have!

How about if we let the generals fight a war like they know how to? Like just kill all the bad guys instead of having to explain and prove that the enemy was shooting first? Both sides in any Arab war hate America and its allies – oops under Obama we have no allies…

  2. Personally I’m pleased that at least in the military there is a real checks and balances principle. Contrast that to the nightmare a parent must face if an administrator at his or her child’s school who made a decision less egregious that this, the parent has to swallow lest his child be disinvited from being a member of that school. Who can “dare” challenge a principal? We just got to take it! I’d love to invite General Amos to handle my kid’s principal. I know there are two sides to every story – we parents have nobody to tell our’s to without the fear of retribution against our kid.
