Gunmen stormed a university campus in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday, killing at least 30 people and injuring dozens more, security officials said told the AP.

The assailants scaled the walls around Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, firing at security guards, students, and teachers, regional police chief Saeed Wazir said. Four of the gunmen were reportedly killed during a firefight with security forces.

Army troops and police entered the university campus and declared an end to the siege at around 3:30 p.m. local time. University Vice Chancellor Fazle Rahim Marwat said 3,000 students are enrolled at the school.

A Pakistani Taliban commander initially claimed responsibility for the attack, but the declaration was later condemned by its officials. Read more at BBC News.
