441 Crashes, Closed Bridges Turn Evening Rush Into Snowlocked Mush As Season’s First Storm Smacks N.J.

Roads across New Jersey were jammed with frustrated commuters stuck in a snowlocked traffic nightmare brought on by the surprising punch of first snowstorm of the season Thursday.

Troopers responded to 441 vehicle crashes as of the 4:30 p.m. on roads patrolled by the State Police, according to Sgt. Lawrence Peele, an agency spokesman.

As conditions worsened, the Port Authority urged motorists to avoid the George Washington Bridge, where a multiple vehicle crash had already snarled traffic and left drivers stranded .

  1. Are all those troopers vaccinated? Better to die from your injuries than to have an unvaccinated officer or medical emergency responder touch you or breathe on you as they help you out of your crashed vehicle.
