Rav Yitzchok Ratzabi, a posek of the Yemenite tzibbur in Israel, published a sefer titled “Ostrich Eggs in Shuls,” which offers 66 reasons for the minhag of hanging them from the ceiling.
Noting that the minhag was practiced in many shuls in Yemen, Eretz Yisroel, and elsewhere, he called for a revival of the minhag, saying that Ashkenazim should also adopt the custom since they now have access to ostrich eggs.

Nu, elaborate about the source of this minhag, why’d you leave us hanging?
What came first, the ostrich or the egg?
