Hundreds of doctors wrote a letter to President Trump this week asking him to end the coronavirus shutdown, saying it is a “mass casualty incident” spurring deaths from other factors such as substance abuse and suicides.
The letter, shared online, estimates about 150,000 Americans each month that the shutdown remains in place would have had new cancer detected, millions more are missing dental exams that could discover problems linked to heart disease, while others are experiencing domestic violence like child abuse.
“Suicide hotline phone calls have increased 600%,” the letter sent to the president on Tuesday read.
The letter adds, “We are alarmed at what appears to be the lack of consideration for the future health of our patients. … It is impossible to overstate the short, medium, and long-term harm to people’s health with a continued shutdown.”

If the numbers of people dying go down, Governor Cuomo won’t be able to make his daily speeches and the economy might go back up.! That’s something that the Democrats and the liberal media will come out forcefully against and will condemn Trump saying he’s doing a terrible job. Don’t believe me? Ask Obama.

My comment was for the other doctors pushing for shutdown and attacking alternate drugs.
Fake news numbers. There are a grand total of 1.8M people a year diagnosed with cancer in the USA, which is 150,000 a month. Stating that the number of diagnoses will decrease by 150k a month is stating in effect that diagnoses have gone to zero, which is patently and absurdly false.
There are 50k suicides per year the US. Even a supposition of a 600% increase would mean 300k suicide fatalities, a figure far lower than the likely death toll from the virus absent preventive measures, according to all current data. Unchecked spread would likely result in 1,800,000+ deaths, which is higher than the total amount of people diagnosed with cancer annually.
The other nebulous assertions don’t have any numbers or facts attached, so they cannot be debunked.
This is a load of hogwash, and not even very fancy looking hogwash at that. Anyone willing to sign such a document is either shameless or illiterate, or likely both. Not the type of person you’d want as a doctor, unless you’re an illiterate conspiracy theorist too. Stupidity loves company.
