Agudath Israel of America’s Statement on the Racially Motivated Shooting in Buffalo:

Agudath Israel expresses our grief after the horrific racially-motivated shooting in Buffalo, New York, yesterday. Our condolences to the victims’ families, and our prayers for those injured. The shooter, a self-proclaimed white supremacist and antisemite, killed ten and injured three more – almost all of whom were Black – in a deadly massacre. In a 180-page hate-filled racist and antisemitic manifesto, the shooter labeled his forthcoming attack as “terrorism.” We agree, and we call upon the full force of the judicial system to punish the shooter to the extent the law allows.

We stand in solidarity with the Black community which suffered the deeply painful blow of yesterday’s shooting. In our grief for their loss, we must all renew our efforts to combat racism and hate.

  1. We stand in solidarity with the Black community

We stand in solidarity with the victims. Period. sounds more appropriate.

Does the blood of the white victims not matter or not worthy of mention?

  2. Are people trading in their trust – and think that they’ll be protected ’cause they’re a minority and minorities are protected???

Well, if anyone (including choshuve spokespeople and editors at large) thought that way, the unfortunate murders and attacks of the past few years should make them see the truth. 1) It’s bedavka the minorities who have violently and murderously attacked us.
    2) We have somehow been officially excluded from being a minority and have somehow turned into …..

Perhaps it’s time to put our trust, work and commitment with Hashem!

  3. No; The correct thing to do is to teach all our children to have Sincere and true love empathy for all people who were born into Non-Yiddishe parents. So that Hashem should see that we are a loving Nation. Hashem will never again instigated any hatred towards us.

  4. Racially motivated…black…black…

The act of murder is something to condemn but Agudah should still be more subtle and careful before jumping onto the whole racism war cry. Agudah does not need to strengthen the narrative among certain groups who perceive everything through a racial lens which results in the fact that only certain types of crime and racial attacks are taken seriously in the US.

(Had this been an attack on a black parade or some other venue that was clearly meant for black people I would agree with phrasing it this way )

I don’t remember Agudah making a similar statement about the black racist who after endorsed attacking whites on social media plowed his car into children at a holiday parade in Waukesha Wisconsin the past November . He killed six people and injured many more

  5. To the previous commenters, please think before you write. There are many moderate people out there. The loudest, most shrill and extreme voices are not necessarily representative of the broad masses. Don’t fall into the trap of radical promoting media.

  6. My message to Agudah: We are all better off when we keeep a low profile. That is how we are suppsoed to conduct ourselves in this galus. Throughout history, whenver we got too involved in culture or government, we were finished.

    The less statements the better!

I once heard from Rabbi Brevda zt”l that if the Purim story would happen nowadays, letters will go out asking K’lal Yisroel to petition and schmear polititions. “It’s a good thing Mordechai and Esther were our leaders! They knew the only solution was to daven, fast, and to do teshuva.”

In our current situation of gzeiras l’hashmid, we are sorely lacking the leadership of Mordechai and Esther!

    • I’m neutral on Agudah’s statement. But there was more than daven & fast. There was action. Mordechai told Esther to approach the king at all costs and do askonas.

  7. the agudah does not make such statements so that the goyim should hate us less. those statements are made because the killings are horrible, no matter who is getting killed.. and klal yisroel understands that better than anyone else

  8. Why does Agudah feel the need to send condolences to a community that hate our guts? When the attacks in Jersey City was happening the blacks in that community were thrilled.

  9. Hear, hear!

Most racists are also anti-Semites and most anti-Semites are also racists. We need to support each other against the evil that is out there.
