United Airlines has announced the extension of the cancellation of its Tel Aviv-Newark service until May 9. This decision comes amidst ongoing uncertainty and concerns regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran.
“We continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely and have decided to extend the suspension of our flights between Newark and Tel Aviv until May 9,” United Airlines said in a statement.
The airline had previously canceled flights on the route through April 19. The airline says the decision to extend the cancellation period is based on a thorough assessment of the situation and prioritizes the safety and well-being of passengers and employees.
“United Airlines remains committed to the safety and security of our customers and employees,” the statement continued. “We will continue to evaluate the situation and make further adjustments to our schedule as necessary.”
United Airlines is offering affected customers the option to rebook their flights or receive a full refund. Customers are advised to check the airline’s website for the latest updates and information regarding their travel plans.
Originally, United had canceled flights to Israel until May 2 due to security concerns following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel and Israel’s retaliatory strike in Iran. United was the first US based carrier to resume direct flights to Tel Aviv, with rival Delta not planning on resuming flights until early June.
