9-11-museumFamilies of 9/11 victims have expressed anger and disappointment that another anniversary will pass without a museum at Ground Zero.

The museum was supposed to be open by Tuesday but questions about funding have caused a work stoppage. Relatives of those lost on September 11 want work to resume, they say that the existing memorial does not do their loved ones justice.

“These millions of people that have come to this site every day don’t have any context, they saw what appear to be a random listing of names,” said the relative of one victim.

1010 WINS Reporter Glenn Schuck spoke with Joe Daniels, the President of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Daniels said that he is eager for construction on the museum to continue.

“All of the exhibitions are getting fabricated, all that we can do as the 9/11 Memorial we are doing. We are so eager to get the construction back on track,” Daniels said.

Daniels told Schuck that he understands why the victims’ families are frustrated.

“The fact that the museum is not yet open is a very personal thing for us to deal with, we have asked for the trust of these family members, we understand their frustration,” he said.

The memorial has had 4.5-million visitors in the year that it has been open. It will cost $60-million annually to run both the memorial and the museum, according to the Port Authority.
