Avi Agrees: A Victim of Injustice

Almost 9 months ago, I was one of the few voices in the Jewish world who condemned the activities of Sholom Rubashkin. As others said, Sholom Rubashkin should receive a fair punishment for what he has been charged. However, I also believe that Rubashkin is the victim of a tremendous injustice. Prosecutors are seeking to have Rubashkin sentenced to life in prison.

In my opinion, Rubashkin has more than paid for any crime he committed. My appeal is not to those who have maintained Rubashkin’s innocence from day one, but to those, like me, who believed Rubashkin should face justice for what he committed. This man has faced justice and now is a victim of injustice. He is not the victim of anti-Semitism, but of powerful people who know no ends in carrying out a vendetta.

When Rubashkin was arrested, there were those like me who said, “Do the crime and you gotta do the time.” Rubashkin has done his time and it is now time that he be set free.

I encourage Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz, who has spearheaded the effort to help Mr. Rubashkin and to reveal the travesty of justice taking place under our noses, to write a book on Rubashkin’s story. Perhaps he will.

I encourage Jews to write to president Obama in seeking a pardon for Rubashkin. In essence, I encourage every Jew to speak up for justice. Especially those who had no problem with the arrest of Sholom Rubashkin should make their voices heard now in calling for his release.

  1. Avi, you were, and your comments got me sick. Before you write an article, do your homework. Now, that you finally see the light, I am glad you are admitting it. You will have to ask mechila from Rubashkin.

  2. Too little too late Avi. Where was your voice of condemnation when Sholom was been unjustifiably raided by blackhawk helicopters and SWAT teams. Where was your voice of condemnation when Sholom was unjustiably jailed without bail. Sorry, I cannot forgive people like yourselves who rush to make judgments against their fellow Jews without looking at the facts.

  3. I still stand by my previous statements of Rubashkin.
I am now merely stating that the prosecutors are seeking to harsh of a prison sentence. I fine or a year in prison would have more than sufficed.

  4. Rabbi P. Lipschutz does not need your encouragement or help. He had done and continues to do whatever he can to help Sholom Rubashkin. It was the people like you who unfortunately, with all their negativity, and young hot-shot talk, killed it. Unknowinly, you nebech helped the goyishe press to spread hate and venom on this wonderful Yid.
You will have a lot to ask mechila for. I am not mekaneh your pekel.

  5. Yes, everybody has a right to their opinion, but when your opinion can make or break a Yid, you better be careful! That opinion is usually loshon horah, rechilus, and motzi shem rah! Well, it seems this is the beginning of teshuva for you, Avi. Go learn Chofetz Chaim. You have a long way to go.

  6. Just want to clarify, since half of my comment was edited out. I wasn’t disappointed in Avi in ANY way. I sided with his previous articles 100%. I do think he’s brave. Lots of Jews, lots of opinions.

  7. Who are you to have an opinion? What makes you believe that anyone cares what you think? I could care less for your opinion and your apology. You can keep them both.

  8. Nice of u to be sorry now after the damage u caused the goyim spend enough time ripping frum people THEY DON’T NEED YOUR HELP

  9. Why is the opinion of Avi Solomon considered newsworthy? Is he a great Torah scholar? the leader of a major Jewish institution? Has he done something of note?

All I know is that he seems to be the only person to put his real name (if it is his real name!) to what he submits to newspapers and blogs. While surely a sign of integrity, this unfortunately puts his intelligence in question.

Lets save the news for those who are accomplishing something for our people other than hitting keys on a typewriter.

  10. CONDEM A FELLOW YID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO DO U THINK U ARE DO U KNOW THE FACTS OF A CASE WERE THIS WHOLE THING IS A VENDETTA FROM PETA AND HOW THEY DROPED ALL THE IMMIGRATION CHARGES BECAUSE THEY GOT HIM ON BANK FRAUD ONLY BECAUSE THEY SHUT DOWN HIS WHOLE BUSINESS AND HE COULDNT PAY ON THE LOAN THIS IS A MAN WHO IS A TZADDIK AND A HUGE BAAL TZEDDAKA AND HESHEM IS TESTING US KLAL YISROEL AND IM SORRY TO SAY AVI YOU FAILED TERRIBLE AND I HOPE MATZAV .COM STOPS LETTING YOU WRITE ARTICLES BEC YOU BRING DOWN THE QUALITY OF THE WHOLE SIGHT!!!!!

  11. It’s time that all of us stand together against the disgusting influences trying to attack Rabbi Rubashkin. It is time to let this great man, baal tzedekah and baal chesed free.

The writer is apologizing for slandering another yid.
