The distinguished Abuchatzeira family was shocked to discover that the ohel of Rav Yaakov Abuchatzeira, the Abir Yaakov, who lived from 1806 to 1880, was in severe disrepair despite extensive renovations made ten years ago.
Due to the political climate in Egypt, almost no Jews have visited the holy site for the past six years. A notable exception was Israeli Ambassador to Egypt David Guvrin, who went recently.
The family appealed to anyone with connections to the Egyptian government to help in restoring the ohel.
