yanky-ostreicherActor Sean Penn appeared on Capitol Hill today in front of the House Foreign Relations Committee on behalf of Yanky Ostreicher.

“I’ve always been a fan of yours for other reasons,” ranking member Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) told Penn at a hearing concerning the imprisonment of in Bolivia of Yanky. “Now I’m really a fan of yours.”

Penn testified before the subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations about the Ostreicher case.

Penn was introduced to the case in part by fellow actor Mark Wahlberg, he said. Yanky’s wife, Mrs. Miriam Ostreicher, said the case made it to Wahlberg through the Aleph Institute

The long, ongoing struggle of Yanky Ostreicher, an American businessman detained for nearly two years in Bolivia without formal charges, was the focus of the congressional hearing held by Congressman Chris Smith, chairman of the House panel that oversees international human rights.

Ostreicher, imprisoned without formal charges for over 18 months in Bolivia, was finally let out of prison on bail on December 18, 2012, but cannot leave the country.

Penn had previously met with Yanky in Bolivia and attended court proceedings before today’s hearing, which was held at 3 p.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building.

  1. Sean Penn isn’t jewish, neither is Mark Wahlberg. Unfortunately. Hopefully though they can help get our Yid released.

  2. Penn’s paternal grandparents were Jewish emigrants from Lithuania and Russia, while his mother is a Catholic of Italian and Irish descent.[
