Afghan security forces killed Tuesday a senior al-Qaeda member whom the Taliban was harboring, local authorities said.
In a statement, as cited by Reuters, the country’s National Directorate of Security said the terrorist was eliminated during an operation in the province of Farah.
It accused the insurgent Taliban group of giving a “safe haven and protection” to the terrorist operative.
Under a deal signed with the US in the Qatari capital of Doha in February, the Taliban was supposed to sever all ties with al-Qaeda.
