Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu left the hospital less than two days after undergoing prostate removal surgery to attend an important budget vote in the Knesset. Upon arriving at the plenum, he appeared fatigued and drawn. Despite his doctors’ advice to rest, Netanyahu insisted on attending the session, reportedly in response to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s opposition to the vote.
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu’s medical team confirmed that his recovery was progressing smoothly without any major complications. However, Netanyahu’s attendance at the Knesset came amid mounting pressure from the far-right Otzma Yehudit party and the Agudas Yisrael faction of United Torah Judaism. Both groups had threatened to oppose the Trapped Profits Law unless their demands were addressed.
The Knesset was set to vote on the final readings of the law, along with a bill proposing an increase in health insurance premiums. This session was the last one of the year, making it the final chance to pass these crucial pieces of legislation.
After casting his vote in the first round, Netanyahu briefly left the plenum accompanied by his personal doctor but returned a few minutes later to continue his participation in the proceedings.
