Agudah: “Degel Never Complied with Agreements”

The Degel HaTorah faction of UTJ wishes to preserve the current positions of Yahadut HaTorah on the list for the next Knesset, but Agudas Yisroel claims that there is an agreement and that it should be adhered to.

The agreement declares equality between the factions, when in one Knesset Agudas Yisroel will hold the odd and first place, and in the next Knesset the order will be reversed. Now, with the upcoming election, Degel HaTorah says that the previous term was only for one year, in which the chareidim were in the opposition and no positions were divided, so Moshe Gafni should continue to lead the party.

Agudas Yisroel convened yesterday and it was decided to insist on the implementation of the agreement, which would have Yitzchok Goldknoff heading the faction and MK Yisroel Eichler being placed in the seventh spot, while Degel MK Yitzchok Pindrus would be pushed to the eighth spot.

Agudas Yisroel claimed at the same meeting that although a year has passed, the previous election campaign came after the Gantz-Netanyahu government, which also disbanded after about a year.

Time will tell whether Degel HaTorah will concede or whether it will follow through on the threat of splitting the party and running separately, which is still on the table.
