agudas-yisroel-moetzesA planning committee for the trip to the United States of members of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudas Yisroel in Eretz Yisroel met last night. Preparations are underway for this visit, though its timing remains uncertain.

The rabbonim of the Agudah Moeztes are undertaking a trip to the United States to awaken the Diaspora Jewish community to the draft law gezeirah imperiling yeshiva bochurim and avreichim.

The rabbonim were first expected to depart in a few days. Arrangements were being made for the rabbonim to attend a massive kinnus in the tri-state area, first scheduled for this coming Sunday. However, in consultation with the Gerrer Rebbe, it was tentatively decided to postpone the trip until after the holiday week in the United States.

In addition to drastic budget cuts to yeshivos and kollelim, and steep cuts in child allowances, a law on the verge of being passed by the Knesset would enact mandatory drafting of yeshiva students into the army.

The current members of the Agudah Moetzes are Rav Yaakov Aryeh Alter, admor of Ger; Rav  Shmuel Berezovsky, admor of Slonim; Rav Nachum Dov Breyer, admor of Boyan; Rav Yisroel Moshe Friedman, admor of Sadigura; Rav Eliezer Hager, admor of Seret-Vizhnitz; Rav Menachem Mendel Hager, admor of Vizhnitz; Rav Yisroel Hager, admor of Vizhnitz; Rav Tzvi Elimelech Halberstam, admor of Sanz; Rav Mayer Alter Horowitz, admor of Boston; Rav Bentzion Rabinovich, admor of Biala; Rav Yissochor Dov Rokeach, admor of Belz; Rav Yochanan Sofer, admor of Erlau; and Rav Chaim Shaul Taub, admor of Modzitz.

It is not clear yet which of the admorim will be participating in the upcoming trip. Rabbonim who are not part of the Moetzes may join the trip. They include the Rachmastrivke Rebbe, the Chernobyler Rebbe and the Amshinover Rebbe.

Sources indicate that the Belzer Rebbe, who was first believed not to be joining the trip, will in fact be part of the delegation of admorim.
