agudath-israel-emblemAgudath Israel of America lauded the New York State Senate’s defeat today of legislation that would have redefined marriage in the state. Although the bill legalizing “toeivah marriage” enjoyed the support of New York Governor David A. Paterson, its defeat was decisive, with 38 members opposed and 24 in favor of the bill.Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, the organization’s executive vice president, had warm words for the legislators who voted to preserve traditional marriage, and made special mention of the important role members of the Orthodox Jewish community played – by contacting legislators over past months and especially in recent days – to express their opposition to the bill.

“When our community comes together to respond to challenges,” he said, “good things happen.”

  1. By acknowledging and legitimizing these mevuldeka zachim, we are only spreading the so called toaivah in our tzibbur. In order to prevent our tzibbur from being affected by these menuvalim, we must insulate ourselves as much as possible, and let the goyim be goyim while we continue to strive in our yiras shamayim and yiras chet.

  2. We have to make sure Shelly Silver loses the election next year when he is up for re election. We need to go out to the streets of the lower east side and convince people somehow not to vote for him. He could have veto the bill just like he veto the Jets stadium that was supposed to be built bu the hudson railyards on the west side highway

    “By legitimizing these mevuldeka zachim,
we are only spreading the so called toaivah
    in our tzibbur.”

Did you just emerge from a cave?

    It’s not a “so-called toeivah.”

Frum people are not spreading anything of the sort. The reh-shaim are attempting to do so. Before posting anything, learn something about the subject.

    Instead of bellyaching, if you’re
really “frum”, you should thank and praise
    HASHEM for a marvelous victory.

These reshaim can have a terrible
effect on society which will also impact
    your yeshivas. Don’t be naive.

  4. Sheldon Silver has to go.

We have to lobby NY State Assembly.

NY State Senate deserves our thanks for
    its common sense.

    Praise the Lord!

  5. Yekhezkel,
“Frum people are not spreading anything of the sort. The reh-shaim are attempting to do so. Before posting anything, learn something about the subject.”
In marketing the greatest form of advertising for small companies who want to get their names out, is controversy. As such these efforts in the frum velt are only popularizing their meshunadeke way of life. For example, did every 8 year old kid in meah shearim know what ‘toaviah’ referred to 10 years ago, no. Only now since the tzaddikim gmurrim have publicized these horrible maisim, are these things commonly spoken about in the frum velt. I would agree with you if we had such a problem in our tzibbur c”v, but b”h we dont, so these things should be left in their proper place, the goyeshe velt.

    Adam,

“Only now since tzadikkim gemurim publicized these horrible maisim, are these
things commonly spoken about in the frum world.
I would agree…if we had such a problem in our
Tsibur c’s….but b’h we don’t, so these things
should be left in their proper place, the goyishe velt.”

Oy, yingele: such thinking would not
be acceptable even in yeshiva ketana.

In the real world, legislation can
have an impact and does affect everybody.

It’s not only the “goyishe velt.”

The reshaim are counting on your
misguided application of “shayv veh al ta’sseh”. Your community participates in the
political process in other areas: police
    enforcement, garbage collection, scholarships,
    funding for education.

It is certainly appropriate to participate in the political process for the
    aforementioned desirable objectives; hence
our invocation of Koom Veh Ay-Say.

Thus, kal veh khomer, participation in the process is called for in the realm of morality—especially to defeat the disgusting
“mishkav zokhor” agenda which seeks to infiltrate into your yeshivas.

    Besides, many world-class Gedolay
Yisroel have issued both oral and written
    directives to combat mishkav zokhor
    pritzus.

The victory in the New York State
Senate brings glory to HaKodosh Barukh
    Hoo. Praise Hashem!
