agudahHundreds of activists and leaders from across the broad spectrum of Orthodox Jewry are expected to attend the Inaugural Legislative Breakfast of Agudath Israel of America on Sunday, October 31st, 9:15 AM at the Broad Street Ballroom, located at 41 Broad Street, NYC.

The event will highlight the vital social service programs sponsored by Agudath Israel on behalf of thousands of needy New Yorkers, and will celebrate Agudath Israel’s long-standing close working relationship with elected officials at all levels of government.

The breakfast, which will be chaired by well-known community activist and Agudath Israel of America board member Mr. Chaskel Bennett, is expected to attract the participation of a wide array of top elected and governmental officials. The program will feature US Senator Charles Schumer as the Keynote Speaker; and, in addition, NYC Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs & Communications Howard Wolfson, who will be delivering Special Remarks.

Additionally, the breakfast will feature testimonials by members of the community who have benefited from the multi-faceted social service programs sponsored by Agudath Israel.

“There is no better way to appreciate just how important a role Agudath Israel plays in the lives of needy New Yorkers than by hearing directly from individuals whose lives have been turned around thanks to those services,” said Mr. Bennett.

Agudath Israel of America, through its community services affiliate, sponsors a broad range of communal social services, children’s welfare and social action affecting the lives of young and old throughout the New York City Metropolitan area. Among Agudath Israel’s programs are: job placement, vocational training and counseling services, housing and neighborhood preservation initiatives (including mortgage counseling and homeowner/tenant counseling services), and a host of senior-citizen and children’s welfare projects.

Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz, Agudath Israel’s Vice President for Community Affairs, emphasized the importance of strengthening these programs in these economically and socially challenging times. “Now, more than ever, with so many families needing help in so many different areas, it is absolutely essential that Agudath Israel continue to work with our government leaders to help address these critical needs.”

Says Agudath Israel Executive Vice President Rabbi David Zwiebel, “We have been able to service thousands upon thousands of needy New Yorkers over the past nearly four decades, thanks to the special partnership between Agudath Israel and our friends in government. This inaugural legislative breakfast will be a long-overdue celebration of that historic partnership – and, looking forward, will strengthen those bonds further still.”

The Legislative Breakfast is being sponsored by Metropolitan Jewish Health System, Health Plus and Maimonides Medical Center.
