Amid the ongoing turmoil in Egypt, a high-profile individual was arrested today. Mohammed al-Zawahri, the younger brother of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, was detained at a checkpoint in Giza, although authorities declined to release more details.
The younger al-Zawahri is a leader in his own right of the Jihadi Salafist group of hard-line Islamists which, perhaps condemningly, was closely associated with ousted President Mohammed Morsi. Al-Zawahri himself is accused of leading insurgents in the Sinai Peninsula. Read more at Irish Times.
