This past Friday, Albert Klass z”l, a founder of the Jewish Press newspaper, passed away. He was 105 years old.

Together with his brother, Rabbi Sholom Klass, Albert, born to Moshe and Ethel Klass before World War II, first published the Brooklyn Daily and the Brooklyn Weekly periodicals before launching the Jewish Press in 1960. Albert grew up in Williamsburg.

His brother, Sholom, died about 16 years ago at the age of 83. His other siblings were Sol Klass, Lionel Klass and Rita Rosenthal.

Working in various capacities at the newspaper, Albert, a resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, was well-respected for his integrity and strict adherence to Torah values. His sterling character, kindness, mentchlichkeit and ahavas haTorah were recognized by those fortunate to know him.

Albert leaves behind his two sons, including Jewish Press Torah editor Rabbi Yaakov Klass; his sister, Rita Rosenthal; and many grandchildren following his ways.

The levayah was held today at Kehila Chapels on Brighton 11th Street in Brooklyn, NY.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. I worked at The Jewish Press, and Mr. Klass was the finest person you could meet. He did his job up until the last minute. A true Torah scholar, who will be sorely missed.
