Dear Editor,

There are two gypsy men driving around Lakewood, NJ, scamming people to “fix” their dents and scratches on their cars.

I have witnessed this with my own eyes how they prey on Kollel wives that are shopping in plaza parking lots. They are very intimidating and demanding and once they start doing bodywork on your car they start telling you how they are professional and you need to pay them more money. These men are. It licensed to do body work let alone professional. I was at the parking lot on E. Kennedy Blvd. in front of French press and I saw them victimize I handful of women. Please forward the photos below so you are not going to be the next victim. *IF THEY SOLICIT YOU JUST SAY NO AND WALK AWAY*

Dent gypsies make a living out of pointing out your damage in parking lots as you go to do your shopping and pressure you into letting them fix your car on the spot. They are quite convincing, to say the least, they are even pushy to sell you on the fact that you have damage that they can easily fix it while you shop. Dent gypsies work in teams sometimes they have a wife and child with them to try and pull at your heartstrings. They need money and they are willing to help you with a cash deal on a cheap repair!

Dent gypsies are professionals at one thing and that is scamming people out of there money and doing little justice to the Dent or blemish they are asking to repair. The usual-explanation, when finished, is to wipe off the paint or wax coating hiding what they just did to your car. The dent gypsies will tell you that in an hour or a day later and it will be perfect. This couldn’t be further from the truth. This coating is usually hiding hole drilled or paint damage pushing out the repair or plain hiding the damage they caused to your car. Their way of conning people has been going on for years and can be quite an organized outfit involving several people frequently moving from town to town so you can never find them again! They usually stake out a parking lot, scoping out cars entering the lot that have damage. Then the dent gypsies find a car that truly needs work, they call in their partners to sell you on a quick fix. That’s when the dent gypsies vehicle approaches you with the enticement of being able to get your dent repair done cheaply while you shop or wait.

The dent gypsies promise a simple cheap repair then take your cash and leave to the next parking lot for the next victim.

  1. Why was it necessary to label the scammers as “Gypsies”? If they were Jewish, or Italian, or Polish, would they be identified according to nationality or race? The description of the way the scammers operated was quite sufficient to enable potential victims to discern the scam and protect themselves. Labeling them “Gypsies” added nothing except racism.

      • Yeah! You’re so right “Seriously?”! Because the commenter doesn’t find it necessary to rudely identify people by their race, he must be a snowflake! We as Jews have never experienced discrimination, and welcome someone discriminating against us based on race!

    • You’re completely right. Imagine the same images with “JEWS” scrawled across it. These seem like bad guys, no need to bring race into it.

  2. So if articles start coming out about jewish gypsies claiming to be car cleaners by the hundreds right befote pesach , would you be ok with it?
We all know that most of those chevra are fly by nighters are clueless about car detailing and shampooing.
You cant have it bith ways.
