All Nations Except U.S. Agree on Climate Accord at G-20

Officials at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg say world leaders have agreed on a final statement emphasizing a commitment to fight climate change—with the exception of the U.S. The final communique from the summit includes a commitment from 19 nations to combat climate change but offers an additional paragraph that “took note” of Washington’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement restricting carbon emissions.

President Trump announced his decision to pull out of the accord last month, a move that was heavily criticized by many European leaders. European officials said Saturday that aides were up until 2 a.m. working on the document, but the U.S. was pushing for a reference to fossil fuels that ran into objections. “The outcome is good.
