Amazon Slams Bernie Sanders

Amazon.com and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., are sparring over working conditions at Amazon warehouses, after the senator called for legislation that would require large employers to reimburse the government for food stamps, Medicaid and other federal assistance received by their employees.

Amazon on Wednesday published a rare blog post rebuffing the senator’s claims that thousands of Amazon employees rely on federal benefits to make ends meet. Those figures are “inaccurate and misleading,” the company said, because they include temporary workers as well as those who choose to work part-time.

It was an unusual move by the Seattle-based tech giant, which has remained largely mum to President Donald Trump’s repeated Twitter attacks on the online retailer and its founder, Jeff Bezos. (Bezos also owns The Washington Post.)

“While Senator Sanders plays politics and makes misleading accusations, we are expending real money and effort upskilling people,” the company said. “We have been in regular contact with his office and have offered several opportunities for Senator Sanders and his team to tour one of our fulfillment centers (FC). To date he has still not seen an FC for himself.”

A few hours later, Sanders responded with a press release of his own.

The senator said he had requested to visit an Amazon warehouse in Wisconsin in July but “unfortunately, Amazon could not accommodate me then.” Sanders added that he is planning to visit a facility in Chester, Virginia., next month.

“Bottom line: the taxpayers of this country should not have to subsidize employees at a company owned by Mr. Bezos who is worth $155 billion,” he wrote. “That is absurd.”

Sanders also called on Amazon to publicly announce the number of people it hires through temporary staffing agencies, as well as the hourly rates and benefits given to those workers. Amazon, for its part, says it created 130,000 new jobs last year, though it did not specify how many of those were full-time positions.

The Seattle Times last week reported that Amazon had enlisted a group of warehouse workers to write positive tweets about their experiences. The employees, identified on Twitter as “Amazon FC Ambassadors,” had all recently created Twitter accounts devoted to defending the company against claims of harsh working conditions and unfair pay.

  1. Amazon actually employs thousands of African-Americans. Bernie Sanders has ZERO blacks working for him. He chose to live in the all white State of Vermont. Bernie is a racist in real time. The bumbling fool talks out of both sides of his mouth.

  2. Mr. Dean, many blacks live in and go to school in Vermont. You must have never been there. Please stop spiking the Green Mountain coffee with your own distilled hootch. Thank from the many black, Hispanic, and Native Americans living in Vermont.

    • Incorrect. Our family goes there every other summer (NH the other years) for close to 20 years. We just got back from a weeks stay in Rutland. Rutland is one of Vermonts biggest cities. Not a black to be found. We went shopping in Tops supermarket (where the 7 and 4 meet). No blacks. We went to the big Price Chopper in Rutland Plaza (a few blocks away). Gornisht. We went into the Walmart in the same plaza. Not one black. We went to Killington. Nothing. Bromley alpine sliding. Nothing. We used to go camping in Addison along Lake Champlain (absolutely beautiful). No blacks. So I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you do some basic research, you will find out that Vermont has the LEAST African-American’s from any State in the Nation. So the 2 blowhard Liberal senators, Bernie Sanders & Pat Leahy are hypocrites of the highest caliber. They preach all kinds of “tolerance” with minorities but that only applies to everyone else, not themselves. Bernie grew up and lived in Brooklyn. Why did he CHOOSE to move out to Vermont? To get away from those blacks. Bernie is an old school racist. Al Sharpton was right.

      • Funny, you choose to go to Rutland and not Burlington or Winooski or Montpelier or any of the main college towns where there are black, Hispanic and Native Americans. By the way, Rutland does have blacks, 131 blacks, so it’s not as though it’s totally devoid of blacks – latest census and https://www.roadsnacks.net/most-african-american-cities-in-vermont/ – a little research.
I went to Bennington for many summers and the college had and still has black students. Many visitors were black as well.
Whether Bernie and Pat are hypocrites isn’t the issue, there are black people in Vermont as in every other state.
There are approximately 6000 Jews in Vermont, I guess Bernie didn’t get away from all the blacks from Brooklyn (Black hats and suits).

  3. The whole dispute is so ridiculous. to punish an employer for hiring people that are only worth a certain amount and agree to the wage which is legally allowed and rely on government benefits designed by and lacking funds from the liberals?
Robin hood was better than Sanders, he stole from the rich and gave to the poor.
Sanders, does the same but the rich needs accountants and lawyers and consultants to calculate, document, comply with an audit and go to court if needed.
