yated-chinuch-roundtableIn the spirit of Purim, the American Yated Ne’eman English-language newspaper this week features a spoof of its regular popular column called “The Yated Chinuch Roundtable,” a forum which each week has a chinuch question addressed by prominent mechanchim from around the United States.

This week, instead of the standard Rountable column, the newspaper features a “Purim Roundtable,” with a real question – though an original one – and answers from the panelists.

The following question was presented to the panelists:

“With so many astute and insightful answers in the Yated’s Chinuch Roundtable, often in opposition to each other, we are never sure which panelist to follow. Who are we simple people to pick and choose between such distinguished and experienced voices? Which panelist is ‘the one’?”

The Chinuch Roundtable is moderated by accomplished author and published writer Rabbi Yisroel Besser.

The Chinuch Roundtable panelists who respond are Rabbi Shneur Aisenstark, Dean, Beth Jacob Seminary, Montreal; Rabbi Yaakov Bender, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshiva Darchei Torah, Far Rockaway; Rabbi Dovid Engel, Menahel, The Toronto Cheder; Rabbi Aron Fink, Menahel, Ateres Bais Yaakov, Monsey; Rabbi Yisroel Hisiger, former principal, Yeshiva & Mesivta Torah Temimah, Brooklyn; Rabbi Mordechai Kamenetzky, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshiva Toras Chaim at South Shore; Rabbi Shmuel Yaakov Klein, Director, Publications and Communications, Torah Umesorah; Rabbi Avraham Neuberger, R”M, Yeshiva Gedola of Bridgeport; Rabbi Nosson Scherman, Editor, Artscroll/Mesorah Publications; and Rabbi Yechiel Spero, Rebbi, Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, Baltimore.

The answers vary, but the mechanchim are creative in their humorous answers.

Rabbi Kamenetzky goes off about being a panelist for a car magazine, while Rabbi Spero “subtly” alludes to some of his published works. Rabbi Fink says that “the best panelist is the one who says what you are waiting to hear,” while Rabbi Hisiger, in jest, suggests, among other ideas, to “find out which panelists strip the linen when they are guests at other people’s homes; which use paper or plastic on Shabbos; which use disposable tablecloths on Shabbos; and all the other groundbreaking inquiries you might make when it comes to your children’s shidduchim, and, based on that, decide who is most qualified to direct your chinuch approach.”

Rabbi Scherman suggests to “buy a set of darts, tape the [Chinuch Roundtable] pages to a convenient wall, and fire away.” Rabbi Aisenstark shares that he showed his “answer to several of my colleagues, my secretary, and the janitor in our building, and they all agreed with me.”
