This past Motzei Shabbos, bochurim and Rebbeim at Yeshiva Mercaz HaTorah of Belle Harbor celebrated the completion of מסכת גיטין as well as the undertaking andקבלה of over 35 bochurim to be complete מסכת בבא מציעא, which the Yeshiva recently began. The Melava Malka marking these two significant milestones was brought in with lively singing, dancing, and a befitting seudah. The festivities were highlighted with the presence of HaRav Shhlomo Altusky shlita, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshiva Darchei Torah, who treated the Yeshiva with Divrei Torah and bracha. Rav Shlomo Altusky stressed that true simcha comes from limud HaTorah and the happiest people in the world are those who learn Torah. The Rosh HaYeshiva, HaRav Shmuel Zev Dicker shlita, shared divrei bracha and expressed the tremendous nachas that he receives from all the talmidim. Watching serious bochurim take steps to grow in limud haTorah brings him “the greatest joy”. The Rosh HaYeshiva also stressed the importance of עמלות בתורה. Dovid Neiman represent the bochurim and made the siyum.
Mercaz HaTorah boasts close relationships formed between the rebbeim and the bochurim, as well as an atmosphere of achdus and camaraderie that permeates the yeshiva. This warm atmosphere is not only conducive to success in learning; it also enables the bochurim to develop lifelong relationships with their rebbeim and friends.
The love for Torah and limud HaTorah is evident as you step into the Beis Medrash and there is a sweet kol Torah ringing loudly. During each seder and shiur, bochurim are highly engaged in the limud with excitement. In addition to the regular sedarim, bochurim have recently taken upon themselves an extra shiur, rising early each morning well before Schacharis. Rabbi Shraga Sender, grade 12 Rebbi, says that he gets a “geshmak to see how many bochurim get up early for his voluntary gemara shiur”.
Yeshiva Mercaz HaTorah sets high expectations motivating bochurim to advance in their limud HaTorah. The Yeshiva encourages Beis Medrash bochurim to learn with the younger bochurim and this serves as an added impetus for each bochur to achieve greater heights. The Yeshiva has an accredited General Studies program and students graduate with a New York State Regents Diploma. Each student is assured a quality education with a solid foundation in all subjects. Mercaz HaTorah’s Beis Medrash is an intensive, three-year program that takes the fundamental tools and skills they have acquired to a deeper level, under the active tutelage of the Rosh HaYeshiva. Following the Beis Medrash program, talmidim continue their learning in leading Yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel.
Yeshiva Mercaz HaTorah is particularly proud of its alumni who have gone on to become chashuve yungerleit, rebbeim, successful businessmen and community leaders. They share a common thread in that they all treasure the close kesher they developed with the Yeshiva. Thanks to the devotion and varmkeit of the Rosh Yeshiva and rebbeim, the bonds forged at Yeshiva Mercaz HaTorah remain in place long after the talmidim have left. Alumni continue to seek eitzos from the Rosh Yeshiva and the rebbeim on an ongoing basis. This unique and lasting relationship formed between the Yeshiva and its talmidim is a hallmark of Yeshiva Mercaz HaTorah – and a guarantee of an even brighter future.
