Israeli, Moroccan, and French researchers discovered the ruins of a shul in a small village in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, used by Jews who left the village of Tamanart 70 years ago.

The shul’s genizah yielded a trove of kisvei kodesh, documents and amulets.

Weeks ago, King Mohammed VI of Morocco unveiled a plan to restore hundreds of Jewish sites, including shuls and cemeteries. The plan included researching Tamanart and adjacent Ifrane, a village believed to have been home to the oldest kehillah in Morocco going back to the time of the churban.

  1. Wow. Kiddush Hashem. Me kiamcha Yisroel. Will there be a Pesach Program there this year? Which singers will perform? Are there kevorim there to explore?

    • The special Pesach program this year is going to take place in the ancient city of Shushan. Arrangements and kashrus supervision are being provided by the Neturei Karta, who are very friendly with the Iranian government, and guarantee the guests’ security.
Inspirational speakers scheduled to appear are the former president of Iran, Mr. Ahmadinajihad, and various ayatollahs. The topic(s) are basically holiday related – how the Exodus from Egypt happened in order to resettle the Jews in Williamsburg and Monroe. Entertainment will include the singing of Lev Tahor in various melodies, by the group with the same name, coming all the way from Guatemala.
Kevarim hopping activities during Chol Hamoed will enlist the local guides knowledgeable in Muslim mesorah. Many important sheikhs are permanently interred in the vicinity. Intense praying at their gravesites is greatly encouraged.
Kashrus is guaranteed to be on the highest level – only shmeera matzois, no gebrochts, chas veshulem, chasidishe shechita only, purest chulov Yishmoel, and non-mevushal grape juice (the local Islamic minhag prohibits any alcoholic beverages, and the ruv hamachshir fully adheres to the local
The organizers absolutely guarantee fullest observance of tzniees, providing complementary hijabs and burkas to every non-male in attendance.
They will also personally interview every potential guest, to ensure that he truly hates everything about Israel with the entirety of his heart, to the depths of his kishkes.

Come, everyone, and lets have a perfect blast at the nuclear facility of our choice!

      • Mr. Letueyles,

The tongue-in-cheek article was very humorous, but you are missing some crucial information. Morocco was not one of the countries who threw out the Jews after 1948. They were far away from the Middle East and persecution was much much less relative to other Arab countries. I wouldn’t say the country was as gracious as the USA, but we’re not talking about Syria and Egypt here.
And do you also criticize those who go to see restored mekomos hakedoshim in Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine? There’s a lot more Jewish blood soaking the ground in those countries than in Morocco…
