The story was all over the news.
Why, of course it was – it involved Orthodox Jews.
But the media and the authorities goofed so badly, it’s embarrassing.
And the authorities didn’t do themselves any favors either, falling for false claims.
NBC News reported on this story, claiming that “around 4:30 p.m., police in Lakewood Township, near the Jersey Shore, were called to a residence on a report of a social gathering,” and that officers found a group of people, including children, on the front lawn and inside the home.
Let’s start with the claim that “there was a 99-year-old at this engagement party.”
Matzav.com knew that something was strange about this claim, so we did some investigative reporting. After a number of phone calls, we tracked down the right people and spoke to relatives of this “99-year-old.”
The only problem?
He’s actually a young man named Michael and he’s 23 years old.
Only 76 years off.
And the “party” was held legally in honor of the engagement of a chosson, Shmuel Chaim, and a kallah, Brocha.
Everyone present was closely related. The 5 people who didn’t actually live on that property were in their cars the whole time.
But you won’t read this at NBC News or anywhere in the media.
And you won’t hear that from the very authorities who showed up at the event to make a tumult and hand out summonses.
Authorities?
Yes. Numerous police officers converged on this engagement event, held legally and in accordance with social distancing guidelines.
Those same police actually wrote on the summons – obtained by Matzav.com – that there was a wedding going on.
But there was no wedding. Just a couple who had gotten engaged.
But why get confused with the facts?
As if that wasn’t enough, the police charged one of the mechutanim with 6 counts of child endangerment – for having his very own kids in his front yard, legally.
Absurd?
Yes, it is.
Apparently, the police had consumed some kind of media anti-Orthodox cool-aid.
The summons the police wrote out for the aforementioned Michael, the 99-year-old, er, we mean the 23-year-old, has the correct month and day of his birthday, but the wrong year.
Shame on the media for stoking the fires of anti-Semitism and not bothering to do any form of investigative journalism. And shame on the authorities, who didn’t bother identifying the facts on the ground before handing out summonses to appease those who are out to malign to Orthodox Jewish community.
There’s enough shame to go around. The apologies can now start coming in.

Have kavanah when you say Vilamalshinim – yimach shimam.
such anti-Semitic stories will continue.
Why did you alter the truth to this dumb statement? This was not what the poster wrote.
As Orrhodox Jews we have to refrain even from that which is legal if it is in the scrutenizing public eye. When I go for essential.shooping about once a week, I wear baseball cap and sprts jacket…I dont need people judging me.
dont stress yourself out. let haters hate. we dont have to bend over backwards for those who will ignore it anyway
Newsflash: We are in galut.
Thanks for digging up this info
Shame on them all.
I don’t care if it’s a technicality. Shows how inept they are
And the media is complicit
This cannot go unanswered.
This stokes the flames of antisemitisim and there is no way the officers don’t know this
These police officers need to lose their jobs for this.
Stop whining; frum voters are the majority in Lakewood, and should elect the officials who are representing the voters’ interests, and who are capable to weed out all police cowboys. Lakewood police are controlled by the Lakewood city hall. The city hall has the legal right to fire every single cop and hire new ones. Cops are not anything special; they are just another town employees, ultimately controlled by the voters. If the city hall can’t get the job done, change the city hall. If you can’t unite, than pay the consequences.
Its painfully obvious you have no clue about what your are talking about, a police officer has both civil service and union protection therefore it near impossible to get fired, Proof Pantilao and the choke hold in SI and he is suing to get his job back.
hey,dude.
lets talk strait. Just because you feel like firing them, doesnt mean other people do, this country happens to run in a way, thank god, that no specific person can unilaterally decide who comes and goes. (at least legally). There is a process to all these things, and it can be difficult to navigate. Sometimes to the detriment of good people, sometimes, and the hope is most often, to their benefit.
Voters and town halls and elected officials, DO NOT have the power to break these rules, they sometimes do, but you generally find out about these guys when you hear about their jail sentence.
Hashem is in charge here, you gotta remember that. Yes we may have to pursue legal routs to clear our name and hold others accountable for purposely maligning us. But let us remember, Im Hashem lo Yishmor Ir, Shav Shakad Shomer.
A qwetchy Matzav write-up, followed by a bunch of qwetchy commentators.
Instead let’s cheer for the chassan & challa, for Shmuel Chaim and Brocha !

This was posted on fox news facebook & interestingly enough there more than 1600 comments on that post & I strolled through many of the comments & almost all I read seemed to be sticking up for the Orthodox jew for many different reasons
Please please call the Lakewood police station and report these cops they need to be informed to their supervisors
