Over the weekend, a Long Island neighborhood near a shul experienced the distribution of antisemitic flyers placed inside mailboxes.
The flyers, disseminated in Plainview on Motzoei Shabbos, displayed images of federal lawmakers with a Magen Dovid drawn on their heads. Additionally, they contained a QR code directing to a website that hosted posts promoting antisemitism and racism.
At the bottom of the flyers, the letters “GDL” were stamped, indicating a connection to the Goyim Defense League—an antisemitic hate group, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
Responding to the incident, Rabbi Elie Weissman from the nearby Young Israel of Plainview promptly contacted both the Nassau County police and a private security company to address the situation.
“One unfortunate sign of our times is that nearly all [shuls] have to invest in security measures,” Rabbi Weissman stated to Newsday.
Similar flyers have been distributed throughout Long Island over the past two years, raising concerns about the persistence of these threats.
