A boarded up storefront on Rechov Yaffo in Yerushalayim featured a ‘Coming soon, we can’t wait to meet you’ sign on Sunday adorned with the logo of famed coffee chain Starbucks.
The last time Israelis met Starbucks, it didn’t go so well. In 2001, the international chain opened six branches in the Tel Aviv area, but within two years, they had all closed. Many surmised that the blends were too bland for the Israeli palate.
If the sign is more than an early April Fool’s joke, it will remain to be seen if the second coming of Starbucks is true and if it will be successful.
