Egyptian sources have indicated that a fresh Israeli delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo within hours, Al Akhbar reports this morning.
Per the report, the delegation will bring Israel’s consent to engage in ceasefire negotiations and initiate a prisoner exchange deal, provided a timeline is agreed upon in the next few days.
Egypt anticipates that such an agreement could be implemented by the start of next week, assuming all proceeds as planned, according to Al Akhbar. This expectation is due to significant US pressure on Israel and regional diplomatic efforts supporting this pressure.
Simultaneously, Egypt is wary that “the Israeli government will not commit to a ceasefire” once some hostages are freed. Al Akhbar mentioned that Egypt and Qatar have insisted that Hamas refrain from any terror attacks inside Israel, in return for a verbal US promise to end the war and prevent its resumption.
The report further highlighted worries that these commitments do not bind Washington, as its officials are preoccupied with campaigns leading up to the November elections.
