i24 News – Arab states sent an official letter to British Prime Minister Liz Truss urging her to refrain from her stated intention of moving the British embassy to Yerushalayim, according to a report.
Such a move would follow former President Donald Trump’s decision to move the American embassy to Yerushalayim, a move which exacerbated deadly clashes between Israeli security forces and protesting Palestinians in May 2018.
Truss pledged she would make this move in a letter to the Conservative Friends of Israel during the race to become the next British premier and discussed it in a meeting with Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
The letter sent to Truss’s office was signed not only by some of the more traditionally pro-Palestinian actors in the Arab world, but also by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain; two countries that normalized ties with the Jewish state two years ago by signing the historic Abraham Accords.
It highlighted the concerns of the Gulf states that they would be seen as complicit with the controversial move and as having prepared the ground for it by recognizing Israel.
Moreover, Arab sources cited in The Guardian report said that the “illegal and ill-judged” plan could jeopardize talks on a highly prized free trade deal between the United Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council due to be completed this year.
The report also noted the view that Truss embraced the initiative not merely due to her warm ties with Israel but out of a desire to establish herself as “a disruptive force.”

Great deal. Turn ahead and US and UK can work together easier.
Sweet.
Will she cave? I think so! The pompous king will open his mouth and voice “the monarch’s opinion! He never really did like Jews – his gesture to chief Rabbi Mervis not withstanding. Great Britain is still unforgiving for the Irgun’s and the Hagana’s activities when these Jewish groups, pre-48, attacked the British who were landlords of sorts over Israel. The British, let’s not forget forbade ships carrying Jews, fleeing the Nazi war machin from coming to Israel. They were, in a way, quite complicit.
And the same _British are tolerant of what other Ex-British colonies did…
Remain calm.
A French Army General once asked a British Army General why British Officers wore red uniforms into battle. The British General replied “The British Officers wear red uniforms in case they get shot so it would not show and soldier moral would be kept high”. The French General replied “Now I know why French soldiers wear brown pants!”
