joseph raksinMiami-Dade police have arrested a teenage suspect in the murder of Rabbi Yosef Raksin z”l in Northeast Miami-Dade last year.

Deandre Edwin Charles, 15, was arrested this morning in the 18300 block of Northwest Sixth Avenue, according to Miami-Dade police.

Charles was brought to Miami-Dade police headquarters for questioning by homicide detectives, police said.

Rabbi Raksin, visiting from Brooklyn, was on his way to Bais Menachem Chabad in the 1000 block of Northeast 172nd Terrace on Aug. 9, 2014, when he was shot to death. Rabbi Raksin was believed to be the target of a robbery.

A grand jury on Tuesday indicted Charles, who was 14 at the time of the shooting. He has one previous brush with the law, state records show: an August 2012 arrest in Miami Beach for grand theft.

The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office and police will detail the arrest at a 2:30 p.m. news conference.

  1. Why wont we hear from Obama & DeBlasio regarding toughening up the gun laws? How did a 14 year old choir boy get a hold of a handgun? Did he purchase it legally? Does the race of the suspect make a difference? Does the fact that the victim was an Orthodox Jew also make a difference? Is it only “black” live that matter? We need some answers.
