assadThis is not an Onion report.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said over the weekend that he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a Lebanese newspaper sympathetic to his regime printed today.

Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that Assad said the Nobel, which went to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, “should have been mine.”

Al-Akhbar claims Assad said in 2003 that all nations in the region should hand over their chemical weapons. OPCW is currently working to destroy Syria’s chemical arsenal by mid-2014. The U.S. State Department has estimated that 1,400 people died in August in a chemical weapon attack in Syria, which has been blamed on Assad, although he has claimed innocence. Read more at AFP.

  1. Hmmmm the problem is, he does have a point. He does not deserve the nobel peace prize any less than EU or Yassir Arafat or Barak Obama. And my previous sentence is not a quote from The Onion either.

  2. He should be awarded the nobel prize, for finally giving 1400 people who were living under horrible conditions, everlasting peace. He also should get it for solving part of the worlds food problems, with the savings on food for several hundreds of thousands of people that no longer need it,and for that matter a prize on energy consumption over the savings he has caused of hundreds of thousands no longer using gas or electricity. He also should get it for helping solve the areas water problems… He shouldn’t be getting just one award, but a whole conglomerate of awards…

  3. If the world was full of Nobel Peace Prize tyrants like Syria’s Assad, of course there would be much less gas and energy consumption and less water usage: Their scorched-earth (chemical weapons) policy would wreak massive destruction. The food problem would also go away because people would be reduced to surviving by hunting and gathering for food like primitive people used to.

Peace activist, please go to Syria very soon and kiss the feet of Assad for all of the world’s left-wing “Nobelists”, would you?

    Thanks.
