The IDF is expanding its presence in key locations throughout southern Syria, with Defense Minister Yisroel Katz directing the military to secure additional positions within the partition zone and strengthen its accomplishments in the region. This directive follows closely on the heels of the IDF’s recent capture of the Syrian Golan Heights, which is aimed at shielding Israel from the consequences of the conflict after Syrian rebels successfully overthrew the Assad regime late on Motzoei Shabbos.

Katz has also ordered the establishment of a secure zone in the southern part of Syria, near the partition area, free of heavy weapons and terrorist infrastructure that could pose a threat to Israel. Part of this plan includes efforts to engage with the local Druze population and other communities in the region to maintain stability.

In addition, the IDF is taking steps to block the reactivation of the smuggling route running from Iran to Lebanon, which passes through Syria and various border regions. Katz emphasized the need to prevent the flow of illicit goods and weapons that could potentially fuel further conflict.

Furthermore, Katz has directed the IDF to persist in its efforts to neutralize and eliminate critical military assets across Syria. This includes destroying surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft systems, surface-to-surface missiles, cruise missiles, long-range rockets, and anti-ship missile systems, all of which are seen as significant threats to Israel’s security.
