feisal-abdul-rauf[Audio below.] New audio has surfaced of the imam behind the controversial mosque near Ground Zero allegedly telling an audience overseas that the United States has been far more deadly

than al-Qaeda.

“We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al-Qaeda has on its hands of innocent non Muslims,” Feisal Abdul Rauf said at a 2005 lecture sponsored by the University of South Australia.

After discussing the U.S.-led sanctions against Iraq under Saddam Hussein, Rauf went on to argue that America is to blame for its testy relationship with Islamic countries.

“What complicates the discussion, intra-Islamically, is the fact that the West has not been cognizant and has not addressed the issues of its own contribution to much injustice in the Arab and Muslim world.” The audio was uncovered by blogger Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs.

  1. Well it’s regrettable that many civilians have been killed in US airstrikes but Rauf misses some crucial points. Firstly, there is no comparison between US actions which do not intentionally target civilians and the actions of terrorists which do (hence the term terrorism). It isn’t simply a numbers game. There exists an evil ideology that needs to be stamped out. Rauf should have acknowledged that. If, as Rauf suggests, the US were to stop intervention completely in the Muslim world then would the terrorists simply drop their guns and go live quiet, uneventful lives. I think not. We already see how the Taliban is trying to re-establish their shari’a state in Afghanistan. For them, whatever the US and Israel do is just a recruitment tool with the establishment of a worldwide caliphate as their goal (as expressed by bin Laden). Second, al-Qaeda specifically targets Muslims (particularly those who don’t fit their mold) as well as non-Muslims. Lastly, it is within his interest to honestly discuss the negative repercussions that the spread of Islam has had on the non-Muslim world (in addition to whatever positives there may be). In short, he sounds like another person who blindly criticizes everything America has done in the Middle East. I imagine that the supporters of the mosque project will have a tough time spinning this their way.

  2. The only way the US is worse than Al Qaeda is that the US is unwilling to identify and confront true threats to oits existance.

  3. more trimmed comments. I see another sherrod deal playing out. this guy is a total moderate but fox news cant have that.

  4. any civilian deaths in iraq while there were sanctions, are clearly completely the fault of saddam hussein, instead of building his military, he should’ve fed his people

  5. I guess according to him (and a lot of the wicked liberals who oppossed the US wars with Iraq), the well over 5,000 Kurd civilians who were cruely massacred by Saddam’s chemical weapons attacks, do not count!

And the well over 300,000 victims of Saddam’s police — whose corpses in mass graves were discovered by American soldiers upon entering Iraq — do not count!

And the well over 200,000 Black people who have been cruely massacred by their “kind” Arab rulers in the Sudan, do not count!

And the well over ONE MILLION MOSLEM PEOPLE who were killed in the nearly TEN YEARS of bizzare combat of the totally stupid war that Iraq started with Iran, do not count either!!
