spero[Audio below.] In Touched by Their Tears: A Kinnos Companion, bestselling author and columnist Rabbi Yechiel Spero explains carefully selected Kinnos and illustrates their message with powerful true stories that bring them to life. We read of the soldier left for dead in a forgotten corner of Vietnam, the Ponovezher Rav’s message to the only surviving child of the Kovno Ghetto, and the boy who left everything behind in Iran to learn in Eretz Yisrael. We practically hear the song of 400 children as they prepare to die to sanctify G-d’s Name. In these gripping stories we learn how to mourn – and we learn how to hope.During the Three Weeks and, especially, on Tishah B’Av, we mourn the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash. Yet how many of us do this by rote, without truly feeling the pain? How can we tap into a true well of emotion for an event that took place thousands of years ago? And how can we use that mourning as an impetus to becoming better Jews?

In this fascinating and much-needed book, Rabbi Spero, helps us understand the Bais Hamikdosh’s Destruction and the proper Jewish response to it. Most of the Kinnos traditionally said on Tishah B’Av, are explained and their message is illustrated by powerful true stories that bring them to vivid life. In Touched by Their Tears we learn how to mourn – and we learn how to hope.

speroIn his bestselling Touched by a Story series, Rabbi Spero taught us the power of a great story. In Touched by a Prayer, he taught us the power of our tefillos. Now, in this unique book, he teaches us the power of our own tears. It is a lesson that will change the way we live, on Tishah B’Av and throughout the year.

  1. I hope it is a least as good as “the Lord is rightous in all His ways”. That book is the classic Kinnos book until now. Check it out.
