Approximately seven weeks after the attack at the Supernova rave near Gaza on October 7, authorities have confirmed the identification of the remains of Shani Gabay, a 25-year-old who had been missing since the Hamas attack on Israel.

Up until this point, she had been presumed to be a hostage in the aftermath of the massacre.

Shani, a resident of Yokne’am, had been actively involved in the event and was last observed seeking refuge at a police command post after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. The reasons behind the delay in identifying her body remain unclear at this time.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the recent law school graduate had contacted her mother at 6:40 a.m., recounting the onslaught of rockets and seeking guidance on the situation. According to her older brother, Aviel Gabay, she was in her car at the time, and her mother advised her to pull over and find a secure location. Unaware at that moment of the terrorists targeting partygoers in addition to the rocket attacks, she sought shelter in a field shelter near Kibbutz Alumim.

Terrorists launched grenades into the shelter, as reported by Gabay’s two friends who survived the attack but each lost a leg. Shani was forcibly removed from the shelter and, seemingly, returned to her car, where she was shot. Despite making her way to a paramedic who transported her to the police command post, she went missing after the post came under terrorist attack.
