avenue-jewBrooklyn, NY – Less than a week after an arson and hate crime in Flatbush, Brooklyn, which resulted in the torching and burning of several automobiles, as well as anti-Semitic graffiti, vandals have struck again, this time defacing the Avenue J subway sign by adding the letters “EW,” so that the station name reads “Avenue JEW.”

A concerned constituent who saw the grafittied sign while on the train snapped a photo and contacted Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn). The Transit Police have since removed the sign and are investigating this incident as a bias crime.

“Education and vigilance are our only weapons in fighting against this blatant hatred,” said Hikind. “We must send a message to those who perpetrate these vile acts that we will not tolerate their behavior. These cowards need to know that we will find them wherever they lurk, and when we do, we will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

On Tuesday, Hikind announced that the reward money for credible information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for last week’s hate crime had increased to $56,000.

Anyone with information relating to that crime is urged to call the New York City Police Department tip hotline at 800.577.TIPS (8477).

  1. Its a hate crime because although it might be humorous to those that have a sense of humor its the underlying belief that the Jews control everything that leads to the same beliefs as the Nazi’s yemach shemam.

  2. you don’t find this alittle insensitive and a “stab” at jews? Do you have a problem with the expression “jew a person down”? To me, it seems that the intention was to offend our people, just as that expression is too offend and catogorize all jews.

  3. No different from what I experience growing up in Boro Park fifty years ago, The word Jew was standardly used as a perjorative , Thirteenth avenue was Jew Town, Little Jerusalem, and I was afraid to travel to and from school on the city bus. Boys were beaten up sometimes, sometimes some kids could defend themselves. Never made headlines. Cops weren’t very responsive. It was the way things were. But you didn’t hear much of adults atacked. This hatred is more serious. Those people were raised in (usually) immigrant Italian and Irish homes and absorbed those feelings from those homes. The big difference today is the often illegal Eastern Europeans who brought their racism with them. They are really brutal and have Polish/Ukrainian/you name it style pogrom tatooed into their brains, they aren’t looking to pass the time because they’re bored, they are serious about hating Jews. Dov Hikind doesn’t live here, and has no notion of what it means to have to walk past groups of intimidating “youths” who jeer, catcall and test the waters until they see they get away with it no matter how hard they push. Then they get openly violent. If they aren’t physically cchallenged, they will run wild. Cops don’t scare them, they’re idiots. They are also, many of them likely not legal, or the children of illegals who overstay their student or tourist visas. Talk of Educating this population is silly and similar to leftist nonsense. They don’t want to be educated, they want to hurt Jews. What would be useful here would be the JDL Patrols again. That helped a lot in the late 60’s and early 70’s against street violence and intimidation targeting Jews. All these bozos understand is counterviolence. Raising 56,000 dollars for info on one set of Jew haters is silly and counterproductive. It just convinces them that we have lots of money, and that increases their rage and that triggers further insanity. and what do we do the next time and the next? Don’t offer rewards. Put the money into patrols, training and equipment for the community patrol. And get a couple of Jewish Patrol Dogs, too.

  4. Everyone seems to be making light of a potentially serious situation. We Galus Jews need to wake up to the fact that we ARE NOT safe in Golus, and our $80,000.00 Lexus, and our $1,500,000.00 homes not withstanding, we have grown way too comfortable with our lives here and have forgotten about our true Tachlis in life. Watch out if this is another wake up call from The Ribbono Shel Olam! Watch out!!
