MK Avi Maoz of the Religious Zionism party has asked MK Meirav Ben-Ari, chairman of the Internal Security Committee, to delay the dismissal of hundreds of firefighters who refuse to shave their beards out of religious or health reasons.
Maoz noted that at a Knesset meeting about the issue, Minister Yoav Saglovitz of Yesh Atid had insisted the immediate implementation of the new regulation, even though those who submitted the proposal preferred to wait until a comprehensive hearing.
Bearded firefighters claim that the new directive is a power ploy being pushed through under the pretext of a safety measure, Maoz said.
