Yerushalayim’s chareidi councilmen are concerned that Mayor Nir Barkat’s newly appointed advisor, Barak Hershkowitz, may be a negative influence in the city’s religious affairs.

Hershkowitz has been quoted as saying that “Public transport on Shabbos is justified, useful and correct. Every time I pay my hard earned money for a cab on Friday night, I fervently pray that the day come that Herzl’s vision [of a truly secular state] is realized in Tel Aviv, Be’er Sheva and Yerushalayim.”

“I hope the mayor instructs Barak to focus on doing things for Yerushalayim and not becoming another advisor on chareidi matters,” said Councilman Yochonon Weitzman of UTJ.

  1. Let’s not forget who elected Barakat the secular mayor in the first place. Don’t blame the mayor. Blame those that elected him.

  2. Barak Hershkowitz DOES NOT qualify for the new job as advisor of the mayor Nir Barkat.
First he must study about his connection to ISRAEL which was given to us by Hashem who
commands us to keep the SHABBOS WHICH BRINGS BLESSINGS TO THE NATION AND THE LAND OF ISRAEL!!!
