Battle Call for Yisroel

The New York State Senate is poised to vote on a bill to create marriages between two men or between two women. Chazal were clear about this exact case: one of the last merits of the gentile world is the fact that they do not write a kesubah l’zcharim, a wedding contract for forbidden relationships.

Our communities have enjoyed success in this state. But if we have the power to stop this evil law now, and we fail to do so, we stand to lose whatever success we have in the future, G-d forbid.

We cannot allow this attack on the Torah to go unchallenged. We cannot rely on the gentiles or other Jews to defend our Torah now. In a democratic society, the responsibility is on us to make our views heard. In fact, the gentiles and uneducated Jews of this state may be relying on us to come forward and speak the truth right now.

There are many logical and legal arguments against changing the definition of marriage. But let us get one thing straight. There is one G-d in Heaven and earth. He has taught the Jewish people the law for all mankind. Relationships between two men and two women are spiritually destructive. Individual people who engage in forbidden relationships put themselves in spiritual danger. An entire state government that declares forbidden relationships to be just as good as normal ones puts all people in grave danger.

Thousands of years ago, our forefather Yaakov stood, a single man in the face of an entire army headed by his murderous brother Eisav. Rav Shimon bar Yochai tells us that it’s a fact: Eisav hates Yaakov. But even though his father named him Yaakov, Hashem Himself gave our father a second name. Hashem gave our father the name Yisroel after he prevailed over Lavan and the angel of Eisav. Yisroel stands firm in his Torah and in his faith in Hashem. Yisroel stands in the face of all the nations. Yisroel is the one whom Eisav himself will acknowledge, with the help of G-d.

I call upon every Jew in the New York City area to contact his or her state senator, as soon as possible. A list of the senators for some of our neighborhoods in the city area is available online at www.zehjournal.com.

Urge your Senator to do everything in his or her power to stop this bill. Most importantly, tell them that you are a Jew, and you must tell him or her that there is one G-d in heaven and earth, and relationships between two men or two women are forbidden to all people.

You can express concern for the people who are afflicted by this confusion of desires. But nevertheless, a man who is addicted to drugs, does it make sense to tell him, that it is okay, here, take all you want? These behaviors are destructive to everyone, and the after effect of such a law would create an environmental hazard worse than a spiritual nuclear meltdown, G-d forbid.

Hashem did not create the world in its finished state. He made it full of dangers and problems, and charged human beings with the task of imposing order on chaos. Today we are called to stand as the spokesman for the King of Kings to the leaders of New York. Contact your Senator today. Tell your family, your friends and your neighbors to do the same. If you’ve called or emailed before, do it again. Especially important are districts in Staten Island and Great Neck, where Republican senators are saying they are undecided on this issue.

May our efforts to advance kovod ha Torah and kovod Shamayim bring us closer to seeing the time when we will realize the full blessing of being mamleches Kohanim, a goy kadosh.

  1. Seems like a colossal waste of political clout.
    And:
    1) its going to pass anyway
2)its the will of the bulk of the state
    3) your arguments raise too many first amendment issues
4)Why do we care what unions the govt recognizes or not – aren’t there much more important things to do?

  2. I really feel sorry for the author of this article. Did he vote D or R in the past elections? And how about the Frum community in general? I suspect this comes under the category of “tzo’akim v’ain ne’enim”.

And of course there is the issue of abortions, and school vouchers…

I am not the bookkeeper for the Ribbono Shel Olam, but as I used to darshen publicly – and in the presence of Democrat politicians – this reeks of hypocrisy.

  3. Excellent excellent piece! We must apply pressure on our paid “elected” officials! Now, just like by Yaakov Aveenu, we have to utilize the power of Tefilla that we have! We must cry out to HKB”H to prevent this Churban from coming upon us and our children, R”L! Ein Od Milvado!

  4. Is there a benefit gained if residence from outside of NY send these emails/letters?
I would think it can have the same affect…?

  5. It seems to me that a benefit could be gained if residents from anywhere would send emails to all senators on the list.
I would think it can have the same affect.

By the way, the list of senators is not readily apparent at http://www.zehjournal.com, you have to dig a bit to find the list.

  6. trolly the troll,

“Seems like a colossal waste of political clout.”

Why? Do you want to be forced to associate with the toavaniks? Do you want them to get a share of the limited insurance funds? Do you want this chait to go up to shomaim and be mikatreg on the peaceful existence of this country?

“1) its going to pass anyway”

Who says? In any case, our protest needs to be registered.

“2)its the will of the bulk of the state”

Are you some sort of toaiva spokesman? It was defeated in all precincts that it was voted on even in Liberal California.

“3) your arguments raise too many first amendment issues”

Gay living is a lifestyle choice and there is no first amendment issue.

“4)Why do we care what unions the govt recognizes or not – aren’t there much more important things to do?”

How would you like your child to be forced to hear lessons advocating for this despicable life style? Why should we be subject more and more public displays of this disgusting way of living?

Your views are very distorted and far from a Torah point of view. May Hashem protect us from these evil people.

  7. I think you are confused. It is already legal to be oiver on mishkav zachar. This has nothing to do with whether or not people will be oiver on mishkav zachar.

It is about rights and marriage. If the bill doesn’t pass ZERO people will be oiver less on mishkav zachar. It just means that people already oiver on mishkav zachar can’t get married.

  8. YOUR MISSING THE POINT!!!
The typical frum person could easily laugh off your whole article by saying – what do we care what the goyim do – let them destroy themselves if that is what they want.

But the answer to that is, and this is what we have to go around telling the goyim, look at Sodom (the goyim know about Sodom, cause there’s a crime that our courts call Sodomy) our sages in the Midrash Rabbah says ?? ???? ???? ??? ?? ????? ?????? ?? ???? ???? – “Sodom was not destroyed only because they wrote marriage contracts on same-gender marriage” we frum yidden live in cities together with them, can we rely for sure on our own merits to be saved from Hashems wrath?

The Hamodia Magazine of Pesach, quoted R’ Avigdor Miller saying the above, regarding Manhattan, right before his petira which was 6 months befor 9/11!

    You said
    1) Do you want to be forced to associate with the toavaniks?
    a) this bill doesn’t force anyone to associate with anyone
    b) what’s wrong with “associating with” them? are you going to catch the kooties? are they physically repulsive to you? do you ask everyone that you associate with what their sexual orientation is? they are just people who happen do something different than you or I would do in the PRIVACY of their bedroom

You said: Do you want them to get a share of the limited insurance funds?
I don’t know what you are talking about
    a) they can already have common law unions
    b) there are many other groups that take away limited gov’t funds, I’m not so worried about this one

You said: o you want this chait to go up to shomaim and be mikatreg on the peaceful existence of this country?

you probably live a sheltered life but this group will keep on doing whatever they do in their bedroom irrespective of this bill

    You said:
Who says? In any case, our protest needs to be registered.
what are you protesting? This isn’t our country – this is a very catholic point of view- i.e., to suppose that our ideals ought to be forced on others.

    You said:
It was defeated in all precincts that it was voted on even in Liberal California.
Back to your sheltered life: california isn’t so liberal, particulalry outside of the bay area, consider for example the Catholic Hispanic vote

Same gender living is a lifestyle choice and there is no first amendment issue.
I’m an attorney and you’re not- so lets not go there.

    Fianlly
How would you like your child to be forced to hear lessons advocating for this despicable life style?

    a) this bill won’t change the amount of stuff heard
    b) my kids go to jewish schools so this is a non-issue

And Why should we be subject more and more public displays of this disgusting way of living?

again – allowing legal union won’t change the display of the lifestyle in the public
it will just take away the overt discrimination based on flimsy arguments

I’m not in support of the lifestyle but I can’t imagine why we can’t let these people who are going to do what ever they do anyways live a secure lifestyle that we all expect from our country

AND AGAIN – this is a HUGE waste of political clout and our time — don’e we have other real issues to deal with???

  10. I agree that it is VERY important for the Frum community to register its protest in the strongest terms (done respectfully, of course). Whether or not we are successful is (as always) up to the RBS”O, but we must make the effort. Rav Avigdor Miller, ZT”L, made this point numerous times, and, although every minute was precious to him, used to write letters himself to government officials to either register his protest or voice his approval, depending on their stance on a particular issue.

I don’t agree, however, that we should make the argument on religious grounds, because that will be rejected, right or wrong, as a violation of the First Amendment.

I sent the following e-mail to my elected officials in Maryland, which I have revised for use in New York (Boruch Hashem, contrary to all expectations, the redefinition of marriage failed to pass this year in Maryland, largely due to the thousands of people who contacted their elected officials):

    Dear _____________,

I am writing this letter to urge you to vote against redefining marriage in the State of New York.

I am fully aware that, in a free society, it is neither possible nor permissible to impose even one’s most sincerely held moral beliefs on others. Therefore, although millions of people sincerely believe that same gender relations are a severe breach of morality, we are clearly unable to impose that view on those who do not share this belief.

The issue of legalizing same-gender marriage is a different one, for two reasons: First, it would involve changing the very definition of marriage to one that was not even contemplated until relatively recently. Second, it would mean that the State Government, acting on behalf of the people of New York, would be giving its stamp of approval to a lifestyle that millions believe is morally unacceptable. And, in a society where family values are continually declining to a shocking degree, who knows what would be the unintended consequences of such redefinition of marriage?

In the strongest possible terms, I respectfully urge you to vote against this bill.

    Sincerely,

    [Provide your name and address]

  11. it is our mission to teach the world right from wrong and to reveal the presence of G-d. we are still in exile but this does not exempt us from fulfilling our ultimate role. EVERYONE realizes that the nature of these “marriages” is unnatural and a perversion of the way we were created and as we are G-d’s ambassadors to the world we MUST say something if only to preserve our own dignity….

  12. This is closing the barn door after the fact. When everyone voted for these politicians originally knowing full well where they stood on same gender gay rights, but the politicans threw them a bone, so now please don’t cry me crocodile tears. SOF MAASEH BMACHSHAVA TECHILA>

  13. #12,

Many Frum people make a point to vote for conservative candidates. And, for those who don’t, this is a reminder why you should.

  14. trolly mctrollerson, what can be more important to us than kvod shamayim, which was why we were created. and what can be a bigger battlecry against kvod shomayim than a this law.how can you call it a huge waste of political clout?
this is a law which has nothing to do with freedom (since they are free to be deviant anyway).this law is only there to show that there is no such thing as morality.
when liberals try to make this a civil rights issue, what they are really saying is, that morality and decency are bigotted concepts. this is a message that we have to do whatever is in our power to oppose.

  15. As a frum attorney from California with an Ivy league background I WILL go there:

    You said:
    a) this bill doesn’t force anyone to associate with anyone
IT WILL BE HELD AS A LEGAL CHALLENGE OF DISCRIMINATION TO RABBIS WHO DO NOT WANT TO MARRY OFF TOEVINIKS AND TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS WHO TAKE GOV’T MONEY AND DO NOT WANT TOEVINIKS ON THE PARENT BOARD.

    b) what’s wrong with “associating with” them? are you going to catch the kooties? are they physically repulsive to you? do you ask everyone that you associate with what their sexual orientation is? they are just people who happen do something different than you or I would do in the PRIVACY of their bedroom
IT IS AGAINST THE 7 NOAHHIDE LAWS AND AN ABOMINATION-CHIYUV MISAH FOR YIDDEN. YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A POOR JEW IF YOU THINK THAT THE TORAH ACKNOWLEDGES PRIVACY LAWS. YOU ARE A POOR ATTORNEY IF YOU THINK THAT MARRIAGE A PUBLIC FACT IS BASED ON PRIVACY. IT IS AS PUBLIC AS YOU GET.

You said: Do you want them to get a share of the limited insurance funds?
I don’t know what you are talking about
    a) they can already have common law unions
NOT IN MUST STATES AND THIS JUST ADS TO THE TOEVINIKS LOBBY’S MOMENTUM.
    b) there are many other groups that take away limited gov’t funds, I’m not so worried about this one
    WHY NOT?

    You said:

you probably live a sheltered life but this group will keep on doing whatever they do in their bedroom irrespective of this bill
TRUE BUT PERMITTING IT JUST ALLOWS IT TO BE RATIONALIZED. SEE THE MALBIM ON THE DIFFERNCE OF PILEGESH B’GIVAH AND SODOM

    You said:
Who says? In any case, our protest needs to be registered.
what are you protesting? This isn’t our country – this is a very catholic point of view- i.e., to suppose that our ideals ought to be forced on others.
THE TORAH AND THE MOETZES SAY TO PROTEST AND YOU ARE CALLING IT CATHOLIC. WHO ARE YOU?!

    You said:
It was defeated in all precincts that it was voted on even in Liberal California.
Back to your sheltered life: california isn’t so liberal, particulalry outside of the bay area, consider for example the Catholic Hispanic vote
I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THE STATE IS OVERWHELMINGLY LIBERAL-AND LA IS AS LIBERAL AS THE BAY AREA.
THE FACT IS THAT PROP 8 PASSED LARGELY B/C OF THE MORMON CHURCH’S FULL COURT PRESS. THE BLACK VOTE FOR PROP 8 WAS HIGHER THAN THE HISPANIC ALSO

    YOU SAID:
Same gender living is a lifestyle choice and there is no first amendment issue.
I’m an attorney and you’re not- so lets not go there.
SO AM I-AND IF YOU SAY YOUR NAME I WILL HAPPILY CHALLENGE YOU ON THAT.

    Fianlly
How would you like your child to be forced to hear lessons advocating for this despicable life style?

    YOU SAID:
    a) this bill won’t change the amount of stuff heard
    WRONG.
    b) my kids go to jewish schools so this is a non-issue
HOW ABOUT THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF JEWISH KIDS WHO GO TO PUBLIC SCHOOL.

    YOU SAID:

AND AGAIN – this is a HUGE waste of political clout and our time — don’e we have other real issues to deal with???

NOT SURE WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE WORLD AND ITS KEDUSAH THAT WE LIVE AROUND.

DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN SODOM

  16. Make a tumult. Let the kids learn about this right in the home and in shul.

    That is chinuch smarts.

The goyim who have an immoral life (this and abortion) are not reproducing. Moshiach should come, but if not, then this self-destructing social group is going to disappear.
